Specialist for Media and Information Services - Library (f/m/d)

You must meet the following requirements to train as a*media and information services specialist in the library field:

• You have at least a middle school diploma
• You successfully participate in the recruitment test of the city of Erlangen in September of the year preceding the year of recruitment.

In addition, you should have good oral and written expression skills. You enjoy working with people, are creative and interested in new information technologies and digital media, and can distinguish between the important and the unimportant. You approach your work conscientiously, precisely and carefully. In dealing with your colleagues, you demonstrate your ability to work in a team, but can also work independently.

Specialist for media and information services is a recognized profession according to the Vocational Training Act (BBiG). The dual training at the city of Erlangen lasts 3 years. It is divided into theoretical training at the Municipal Vocational School for Media Professions in Munich and practical training at the Erlangen City Library.

Vocational Training

The practical part of your training will mainly take place at the City Library of the City of Erlangen. During your training, you will be introduced to the various fields of activity and systematically familiarized with the contents of the job. Here you will have the opportunity to practically apply, consolidate and deepen what you have learned in vocational school.
During your practical training, you will be supervised by competent instructors who will give you an insight into the various tasks and everyday life as a specialist employee for media and information services and will also gradually give you the opportunity to take on these tasks independently.
A healthy feedback culture is emphasized at the City of Erlangen: You will receive feedback on strengths and weaknesses so that you always know how you can actively develop further in order to expand and enhance your skills.

During your training, you will receive a monthly training allowance (gross)

• in the 1st year. Year in the amount of 1,068.26 €
• in the 2nd year in the amount of 1,118.20 €
• in the 3rd year in the amount of 1,164.02 €

The training remuneration is based on the collective agreement for trainees in the public service (TVAöD).

In addition, as a trainee*r of the City of Erlangen, you are entitled to capital-forming benefits in the amount of € 13.29 per month and a special annual payment ("Christmas bonus").

After the training, the remuneration is based on the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD). The grouping and thus also the remuneration take place according to the activity, which is taken over. The performance principle applies. The law therefore provides for certain grouping criteria. If an employee holds a position and fulfills all job characteristics, the classification is made according to the previously determined job evaluation.
The starting salary is currently € 2,683.45 (gross) in the pay group EG 06, level 1.

As part of the training, all fees are borne by the city of Erlangen.
In addition, the dormitory accommodation during the vocational school blocks will be taken over.
For inter-company training courses that take place outside the company, travel expenses will also be reimbursed. For a training course with overnight stay, the city of Erlangen takes over the cost of room and board.

The number of apprentices is based on the expected personnel requirements. The city of Erlangen offers capable junior staff a takeover guarantee.

You will be an integral part of the public library team and will take on your own areas of responsibility. This may involve editing work for a group of holdings, for which you will select and acquire media and make them available to users. In addition, routine use of library software at the service desk and information desks is part of your daily work. Social media participation combined with event and public relations work may also be a part of your job. The introduction of school classes or kindergarten groups is also part of your activities, depending on the department.
