Waste grease collection receives funding

Stand: 28.05.2024

Biodiesel from used fat: The cities of Erlangen and Fürth collect used cooking oil using green collection bottles and collection machines to produce biodiesel.

Turning used cooking oil into biodiesel: 16 new collection points for used cooking oil in Erlangen

The cities of Fürth and Erlangen will introduce the comprehensive collection of used cooking oils and fats throughout their urban areas as a subsidized climate protection model project. To this end, 16 collection machines will be set up in Erlangen - spread across the city - between May and July 2022.

Citizens can then hand in their full collection bottles at the collection machines and receive an empty collection bottle in return.

The installation of the 16 vending machine locations throughout the city and the distribution of the collection bottles to all households will start in May 2022 and be completed by July 2022 at the latest.

An accompanying campaign will draw citizens' attention to the used cooking oil collection and encourage them to collect it.
The used cooking oil collected will be processed and used as a raw material for the production of biodiesel in future, thus replacing mineral diesel.

The project is a joint project with the city of Fürth as a joint partner and joint coordinator for the funding body.
