Response to 16. traffic lights on Paul-Gossen-Straße / Wehneltstraße
Stand: 28.05.2024
16th traffic light switching Paul-Gossen-Straße / Wehneltstraße
The traffic lights on Paul-Gossen-Straße / Wehneltstraße take a very long time to change for pedestrians and cyclists.
Response from the Office for Urban Planning and Mobility:
We can understand your comment about this traffic light system. There are two main reasons for the slightly longer waiting time you observed at this point:
Firstly, this is due to the long pedestrian ford on the south side of the junction. Here, after the end of the green period, a relatively long clearance time (red phase for all "hostile" traffic flows) must be waited for before the other directions can be cleared. For safety reasons, this time, which allows a pedestrian starting to cross safely in the last second of green, cannot of course be shortened any further. However, this results in a "perceived" longer interruption.
On the other hand, this traffic light system is integrated into the coordination ("green wave") between the Günther-Scharowsky-Straße junction and the Südkreuzung junction. The release of the secondary directions and pedestrian crossing therefore only takes place at a defined time within the system's cycle.
However, the interventions by bus traffic can still be optimized here and we can promise you that we will implement a few more improvements. However, due to the current staffing situation and other urgent projects, we are not yet able to give you an implementation date.
