5. vibrations caused by road traffic on Pfarrstraße
Residents in Pfarrstraße feel disturbed by the vibrations from the manhole covers and the road inlet caused by constant city traffic (buses, trucks). What is the City of Erlangen's approach in this regard?
Answer from the civil engineering department:
We can inform you that the two street drains to the west and east of Pfarrstraße 18 have been renovated in the meantime.
We have forwarded the concern regarding the manhole covers to the drainage company of the city of Erlangen for the purpose of responsibility. They informed us that the "anti-rattle rings" had been replaced at regular intervals and that there was no visible damage to the traffic areas in the immediate vicinity of the manhole covers. The drainage company also inspected the covers in connection with the ongoing traffic. It became clear that the majority of cars do not drive directly over the manhole covers and therefore do not produce any "rattling noises".
However, it should be noted that the perceived vibrations caused by the drainage operation could not be determined.
However, due to the high axle load of buses and trucks, noise could be clearly heard when crossing the cover. The administration is currently investigating whether special manhole covers can be installed to minimize the noise.
