AWO district café welcomes youth parliament
Stand: 04.05.2026
JuPa member Marissa Weinrich as a guest at the AWO district café 56Nord
The Erlangen Youth Parliament introduced itself at the meeting of the Senior Citizens' Advisory Council on March 23, 2026. On the fringes of this meeting, personal discussions were also held with individual members. Marissa Weinrich, a pupil at the Albert Schweitzer Gymnasium and resident of Büchenbach, expressed her interest in visiting the AWO Stadtteilcafe 56Nord. She had only heard about it before. Frank Steigner, member of the senior citizens' advisory board, and Felizitas Traub-Eichhorn, deputy chairwoman, took this as an opportunity to invite Marissa. As a former teacher at Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium, Felizitas Traub-Eichhorn was particularly pleased with the interest. During her active time at the school, it had always been important to her to encourage young people to get involved in JuPa. Accordingly, the school has always been well represented in the municipal committee and can look back on a large number of alumni.
During the visit to the AWO Café, Frank Steigner explained the concept of the meeting place, which is open every Monday and Tuesday from 2.00 - 5.00 pm. During this time, a team of now 30 volunteers offer coffee and homemade cakes for a donation. The room, which was originally only used by the AWO local association, has been attractively renovated and extended to include an east-facing outdoor terrace, which is particularly popular in the summer months. The café, which is the result of a joint initiative by Frank Steigner and Felizitas Traub-Eichhorn, has now become a regular meeting place for people from the district. Thanks to the large number of volunteer carers, it has always been able to operate. And the rickshaw is available for people who are no longer able to walk. Marissa tested it out on the way home.
