Erlangen, the “Bio City,” and the Erlangen-Höchstadt district present : A street festival full of delights, featuring booths centered on regional, organic, and fair-trade themes. We’ll show you everything Erlangen, Erlangen-Höchstadt, and the surrounding area have to offer when it comes to sustainable and climate-friendly organic food! Get to know regional businesses and initiatives, sample organic and fair-trade delicacies, and chat with organic pioneers. Creative hands-on activities, booths with seasonal treats to sample, and tips on where to shop locally are waiting for you!

On Wasserturmstraße, the “Genussmeile” welcomes you with a diverse array of booths: Sip the “Erlanger Biostadt-Sud” at a street café, taste wine and “Federweißer” from Franconia’s southernmost wine region, or quench your thirst with non-alcoholic organic grape or apple juice. While you’re there, treat yourself to oven-fresh artisanal baked goods, chive “Arche” bread, mini bratwurst rolls, and vegan delicacies like soups, onion tarts, or quiches in the organic food court. While enjoying organic Fair Trade coffee or tea, treat yourself to freshly baked crêpes, vegan cake specialties, or apple chips for dessert.

A wide range of local and regional organic producers invite you to shop for organic fruits and vegetables and other seasonal and value-added products —including farms with unique agricultural marketing concepts such as subscription boxes and farm stands, as well as those with specific sustainability goals: These include a water- and energy-efficient market garden, an “Archehof” farm promoting greater animal welfare, and an apple orchard with wildflower strips to boost biodiversity. You can also look forward to special products like organic plants and organic furs for winter.

Food rescue volunteers will also be on site, offering healthy samples to try and sharing insights into whether there are initiatives for food sharing in the organic sector as well. In keeping with the motto “think globally, act locally,” you can also learn about fair-trade organic products from around the world and stock up on tropical treats. An organic producer from Erlangen will provide insight into their product portfolio, and a citizen-owned stock corporation will share information about social, ecological, and regional investments in agricultural projects of the future.

For families with children, there are creative hands-on activities such as pumpkin carving, making your own granola mix, and playing on mini ping-pong tables. You can also marvel at the colorful harvest from the “Zukunftsacker” (Field of the Future)— grown by school classes during open-air organic vegetable lessons. At the booths of Biostadt Erlangen, Regional Management Erlangen-Höchstadt, and the organic consumer group, you can get advice, literature, and informational materials, as well as a list of organic shops for your next shopping trip. The Organic Day will be rounded out by an exhibition on Erlangen’s climate initiative, featuring a climate quiz —covering topics such as nutrition and consumption—as well as a photo station. At the Climate Mobile, you can also get advice from the city’s energy consultants. And of course, there’s much more to discover—come and be surprised!

In 2026, the new Bavarian Organic Queen, Lena Reichtalhammer , will grace the Erlangen Organic Day for the first time. The Organic Queen serves as the ambassador for Bavaria’s organic agriculture and food industry. She represents the entire Bavarian organic sector.

In 2026, the Erlangen Organic Day will take place as an “Organic Delights Market” as part of a nationwide series of organic markets in various municipalities across Germany—an initiative of the Association for the Promotion of Organic Cities (Verein zur Förderung der Bio-Städte e.V.) and “Bio Komm’ mit” from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Home Affairs (BMLEH).

Organic Day is also an initiative of the City of Erlangen as part of the Bavarian Climate Week 2026 organized by the Bavarian Climate Alliance. Throughout Bavaria, the initiative aims to highlight the diverse ways in which people, municipalities, businesses, educational institutions, associations, and many other stakeholders are committed to climate protection, climate adaptation, and climate education.
