Cercle Celtique de Rennes in Erlangen

Stand: 11.12.2024

Second part of the exchange on intangible cultural heritage between Brittany and Franconia

From November 5-9, 2024, the Cercle Celtique de Rennes visited Erlangen to present various facets of Breton culture. The Cercle Celtique does not archive cultural heritage in museum form, but keeps it alive in everyday life and provides a framework for contemporary artistic creation that takes up tradition and leads it into the modern age. An extensive program awaited the seven members of the Cercle Celtique in Erlangen. At the Ohm-Gymnasium, they introduced a French class to traditional Breton music and the instruments used for it, as well as the typical costume and played a round of jeu de palets with the pupils. Of course, they also danced together and baked (and ate) crêpes. Together with the Kulturverein Erlangen, a dance workshop and Fest Noz took place at the Kulturforum Logenhaus, where experienced dancers and curious dance newcomers were able to learn some Brittany dances. The Breton afternoon at the Diakonie retirement home on Ohmplatz was a special moment for everyone involved. The delicious smell of crêpes and the music of Brittany wafted through the corridors and delighted the residents. The event concluded with a friendship evening between Erlangen and Rennes at the Erlangen adult education center. With free admission, anyone interested could discover the rich cultural heritage of Brittany. And of course there was also dancing and fresh crêpes.

The Cercle Celtique's invitation to Erlangen was the second part of an exchange on the intangible cultural heritage of Franconia and Brittany. Back in March, the Erlangen cultural association traveled to Rennes and gave a small insight into Franconian church festival culture as part of the Sevenadur festival.

The invitation of the Cercle Celtique de Rennes to Erlangen was supported by the Franco-German Civic Fund and took place in cooperation with the Franco-German Institute Erlangen (dFi), the vhs Erlangen and the Kulturverein Erlangen.
