Christoph Steinert signs the Golden Book

With Christoph Steinert, the city of Erlangen is honoring an outstanding handball player who has celebrated sporting success at both national and international level. In the presence of Lord Mayor Florian Janik, the HC Erlangen backcourt player signed the city's Golden Book on Tuesday.

From Rangsdorf to Erlangen - an impressive career

Born in Berlin, Janik began his sporting career with the dream of becoming a professional footballer. But at the age of 13, he took a detour to handball, where he found his true calling. His first club was SV Lokomotive Rangsdorf, where his career began.

Christoph Steinert can look back on an impressive career:

• 2008: European champion with the U18
• 2011: World champion with the U21
• First Bundesliga experience with SC Magdeburg
• Since 2021: Player of the HC Erlangen
• HCE player of the 2022/2023 season
• Since 2022: Member of the senior national team

Silver at the 2024 Olympics - a dream come true

A special highlight of his career was the silver medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. With passion and a legendary "miracle throw", the German national team fought their way into extra time against France in the quarter-finals and later into the final. There they were beaten by the strong Danes, but the silver medal remains a milestone.
