The Rennais artist collective La Vilaine visits Erlangen

On the occasion of the 22nd Erlangen International Comic Salon, two members of the Rennais comic collective La Vilaine visited Erlangen. Alexis Wolff arrived a week before the Salon began and took part in the renowned international comic seminar. Ismaël Hadour arrived just in time for the Salon. At the German-French Institute’s booth, they presented samples of their work and, of course, the collective’s anthology, of which there are now seven issues. In addition, the two artists invited visitors to participate in a collaborative comic and to continue a story started by La Vilaine, each contributing one panel. And along the way, numerous conversations arose between the visitors from Erlangen and the guests from Rennes. The artists from La Vilaine were particularly surprised that the participants kept steering the story in very absurd directions—an experience they hadn’t yet had in France. The results of the collaborative comic have been on display for several weeks now in the vhs window on Schuhstraße and will remain there until the last week of July.

A special highlight was the “Battle dessinnée.” Two teams of artists, two flipcharts, and off they went! The host asked the audience for a theme for each team to illustrate and then set a challenge for the participants: drawing with the other hand, holding the pen in their mouth, etc. … After each round, the audience decided which team had mastered the challenge better. - It was a blast for both the participants and the audience.
