Erlangen remains a strong Siemens location

Stand: 26.03.2025

Job cuts announced nationwide do not call investments in Erlangen into question. Mayor Janik nevertheless speaks of a burden for employees.

Lord Mayor Florian Janik comments on the Siemens Group's announcement to cut jobs nationwide: "I hope that the impact here at the site will be as minimal as possible. But the planned nationwide job cuts will certainly not leave us unscathed. It is an important signal that Siemens is continuing to refrain from compulsory redundancies. But for those who can no longer keep their current jobs, the changes will still be a major burden." The company is in contact with the company and the works council on site.

At the same time, Janik emphasizes that Siemens will remain a strong partner for Erlangen. "The good news for the city is that Siemens will remain a strong location in Erlangen in the future. This is demonstrated by the developments at the Siemens Campus and the investments in the Frauenauracher Straße area." With the Siemens Campus, Siemens is creating a new, lively district on the former research site. The site is home to modern office buildings, spacious green and open spaces, restaurants, shops and services, living space and, in future, parts of the Faculty of Engineering. Siemens is investing 500 million euros in Frauenauracher Strasse.

"Siemens is thus establishing this location as a global development and production center as well as a starting point for technology activities for the industrial metaverse," explains Konrad Beugel, Head of Business and Finance.

As Siemens AG announced in a press release, around 2,600 jobs are to be cut at German locations in the Digital Industries division by the end of the 2027 financial year and around 250 in the electric vehicle charging solutions business by the end of the 2025 financial year. As the Group states, there will be no redundancies in Germany. The company has presented the plans to its employee representatives, but specific figures for individual locations are not yet known.
