Erlangen Rotary Prize for "Senior Citizens' Café Ukraine"

Stand: 18.02.2025

Offer for senior citizens in Erlangen and for older refugees of all nationalities.

The Ukraine Senior Citizens' Café was awarded the Erlangen Rotary Prize. With the beginning of the war in Ukraine, many refugees came to Erlangen, especially women with children and older people. The city of Erlangen's senior citizens' advisory council quickly made efforts to provide services. The central idea was to make it easier for people to make contacts. This is how the Senior Citizens' Café came into being in the Catholic parish of St. Heinrich, run jointly by the Senior Citizens' Advisory Council, the St. Heinrich Senior Citizens' Working Group and the St. Heinrich Helpers' Circle. The Ukraine Seniors' Café is also open to all senior citizens in Erlangen as well as older refugees of all nationalities. There are now a good 80 regular guests. The project was selected as a winner because it is an example of how integration for refugees is made possible on a voluntary basis. Other award winners were the Bahnhofsmission and Deutsche Lebensrettung.
