First ESD future workshop a success

Stand: 19.07.2024

The first Education for Sustainable Development Future Workshop was held a few days ago. Those responsible at the city's Office for Environmental Protection and Energy Issues have drawn a positive balance.

Shaping a positive personal future and social development

The event was very much in line with a recent recommendation by the Conference of Education Ministers on education for sustainable development in schools. It demands that school education should enable pupils to shape both their personal future and social development in a positive way. And this within the planetary boundaries and with respect for the rights of all people.

Who was involved

Ten schools from the city and district, the One World Station Erlangen as an extracurricular place of learning and the organizers from the Losch School and the city administration took part in the sustainability market. The extracurricular Erlangen ESD network collected ideas for sustainable education of the future in a wish globe sculpture. The Big Band of the Ernst Penzoldt School opened the event.

Various offers

The stands at Hugenottenplatz were all about

  • the sale of vegetables and insect hotels
  • information on insects and education for sustainable development
  • an exhibition on gender equality
  • the sale of homemade soaps
  • an experiment on wastewater treatment.

Short reports on projects, self-made garbage monsters, the sale of products from the school garden and information on honey bees, including sales, completed the range of offers. The pupils were the contact persons for their sustainable projects, sold homemade products from the school garden or other workshops and offered hands-on activities such as sustainability raffles and several quizzes.
