Find out more about the technical school

The technical school is a voluntary school for adult education and an important building block for vocational qualification. Students who complete advanced technical training there and pass a supplementary mathematics exam receive a technical college entrance qualification. This allows you to study at a university, even if you previously only had the qualifying secondary school leaving certificate or the intermediate school leaving certificate. School fees are not charged. Those who graduate receive a master craftsman bonus of 3,000 euros from the Free State of Bavaria as recognition. Petra Kampmann, Head of the technical school since February 15, 2025, explains in more detail: "We offer mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, IT technology and - as our youngest baby - environmental protection technology/regenerative energies. The students who come to us have completed vocational training and usually have at least one year of professional experience in a relevant profession that fits the corresponding subject area."

New: Artificial intelligence (AI) in various disciplines

Oberbürgermeister Florian Janik und die Leiterin der Technikerschule Petra Kampmann vor der Industriemodellanlage. From the 2025/2026 school year, the technical school will focus on AI - artificial intelligence (AI) will be offered in various subject areas. Petra Kampmann: "Pupils who opt for special focus subjects will receive a corresponding note on their school report. This enables them to prove that they have dealt intensively with current developments and applications in the field of artificial intelligence. This focus opens up a wide range of prospects for the young specialists in a forward-looking industry and strengthens their skills for the digital world of tomorrow."

In the long term, the school is of course monitoring the situation "on the market" - everyone is talking about AI. "We are very pleased that we will be able to align our departments accordingly from the 2025/2026 school year as an "AI focus school". In this context, I would like to see an intensification of networking with the universities in the region and, above all, with local companies. Overall, the digitalization of teaching is an important topic. We would very much like to see uniform equipment in classrooms so that teachers have the same standard everywhere. In this regard, we are in close contact with the school administration office, which is very cooperative - within the limits of the financial possibilities," says the principal.

School also offers additional courses

As far as the duration of training at the technical school is concerned, there are different models. Full-time training with lessons from Monday to Friday lasts two years. Part-time training with lessons on two evenings and Saturdays lasts three years. The latter is of interest to anyone who is completing their training alongside their job. Petra Kampmann: "I have the utmost respect for the young people who decide to do this." However, the school also offers additional courses. For example, pupils can take the apprenticeship certificate after completing prior training. Petra Kampmann: "Here we work closely with the technik-verein e. V. and, of course, with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, which conducts the examination." The school is currently also offering an examination to become an energy consultant in the field of environmental protection/renewable energies. This enables them to acquire a coveted additional qualification."

"We want to avoid having to close a subject area or turn away students at all costs"

In addition to imparting knowledge, the technical college has to create the framework for its courses - which is a major challenge. Petra Kampmann: "Like most municipal authorities, it's the financial situation. We schools are not quite so much in the focus of the funding cuts, but we would have very much liked to have planned an additional position next year, which was not approved. This now has to be compensated for elsewhere. We definitely want to avoid having to close a subject area or turn away pupils. Purchases relating to the technical equipment in the classrooms and laboratories are also being put to the test. That hurts in some cases."

New name from fall 2026

The Education Committee decided to change the name on March 20, 2025. From the 2026/2027 school year, the school will operate under the name "Fachschule für Technik". Petra Kampmann: "I think that's a good fit: it emphasizes the focus on content. Until then, the statutes still need to be changed, forms, signage, etc. To make us better known, a large stele on Drausnickstraße pointing to us would be a great thing in this context."
