An Imaginative Journey into the Mythical World of Brittany

Stand: 24.07.2026

The Bain-Marie theater troupe from Rennes is performing in Erlangen

A week ago, the German-French Institute in Erlangen (dFi) celebrated its traditional Jour de France. This year’s program featured a special cultural treat: the play “Avant que la nuit tombe” by the Rennais theater group Compagnie Bain-Marie. Every evening, the play’s main character must tell herself three stories to keep the day’s experiences from fading into oblivion. These three stories transported the approximately 120 audience members in the main hall of the kubic into the mythical world of Brittany and led them to encounters with the mischievous korrigans.
We first made contact with the theater group last year, when a member of Compagnie Bain-Marie traveled from our French sister city to Erlangen to participate in the Rennes-Erlangen workshop hosted by Compagnie La Bande Passante during the figuren.theater.festival. We are delighted that this encounter has now made the guest performance of “Avant que la nuit tombe” possible.
