Forum Education for Environment and Sustainability in Erlangen

Stand: 13.08.2025

The Forum Education for Environment and Sustainability in Erlangen is also the network "Education for Environment and Sustainability in Erlangen".

The forum sponsor is Markus Bassenhorst. Janina Baumbauer is responsible for coordinating and organizing meetings and programme content.

Brief report on the 2024 activities:

The ESD forum "Network Education for the Environment and Sustainability in Erlangen" had a successful end to 2024 with many goals achieved. The network currently consists of 50 member organizations, of which around 20 institution representatives are actively involved in the exchange and planning rounds.

Four network meetings were held at different learning locations for sustainability (Weltladen, Botanischer Garten, Kulturpunkt Bruck, Lesecafé). The network compiled the "Sustainability Action Program" brochure with 140 events for the urban community.

A newly founded "Climate Education Working Group" took up a request from the citizens' assembly for more free climate education for adults and launched the special program "Climate protection on a budget" with 20 free adult events. Both were presented interactively at an ESD stand at the Rädli.

Joint activities or participation in activities with the involvement of changing network partners included the ESD trainers' courses on the topics of "Think economically - act sustainably" and "Climate education", the future ESD workshop "Erlangen schools from the city and state set off" at Hugenottenplatz, the family tours organized by the Erlangen Family Alliance, the Sustainability Day and the cooperation project Ocean Exhibition in the city library with three network partners. A games evening on the biodiversity escape game, a joint excursion to the Hello Nature exhibition with a guided tour of the GNM and a guided tour of the Fabulous Fabaceae exhibition in the Botanical Garden enriched the exchange of ideas and the diversity of knowledge and methods in the network.

The acquisition of new stakeholders and learning locations (e.g. representatives of the ESD team Bavaria/Middle Franconia or the tannery garden), external lectures (e.g. from The FutureLabs or ClimateHub), regular ESD news via the network mailing list, short reports in the Erlangen Education Council and the presentation of the network's work as a municipal best practice example to external stakeholders (e.g. at the KJR expert meeting in Erlangen).at the KJR symposium in Munich, at a meeting of the ESD Competence Center, at the ESD working group of the StMUV in Munich and at the symposium of the ESD stakeholder platform in Munich and the Center for Global Learning in Bayreuth) were an expression of the constant new impetus for the network and its external activities. The ESD network, with its extracurricular perspective, was also involved in the development of the questionnaires for the ESD survey of schools/daycare centers of the Education Office/Environmental Office and an ESD funding list was created as a guide for the network.

Many thanks to Janina Baumbauer for compiling the report.
