very concrete 2. even more form, color & space

Stand: 12.05.2025

Kunstpalais, May 17 to September 28, 2025, opening of the exhibition: Friday, May 16, 2025, 7 p.m.

Abstrakte Komposition mit einem blauen und einem gelben Dreieck in der Mitte, darüber eine rote Farbfläche, umgeben von grünen Farbflächen und kleinen weißen Farbflächen in den Ecken.

What do a composition of brightly colored triangles, fragrant sculptures hanging from the ceiling, a brightly striped dachshund and a skater doing tricks on minimalist sculptures have to do with each other?

All these works are in the tradition of an art that does not depict anything, but creates something completely new with form, color, space, line or surface: Concrete Art. After more than 100 years, the idea seems familiar - and outrageous at the same time! Because detachment from representation offers great freedom. The freedom to experiment with the parameters, to perceive and see with concentration, without interpreting. Concrete art has always been democratic: it works without prior knowledge - and without prejudices.

Following the success of the exhibition ganz konkret, ganz konkret 2 now continues the concept of the "sensual, associative crash course" on a larger scale and with a completely new selection of works. A colorful, form-loving, surprising and sporty adventure that ranges from Otl Aicher's design for the 1972 Munich Olympics to Kay Walkowiak's humorously austere video works, from Georg Karl Pfahler's radiant Hard Edge paintings from the 1970s to Diana Galli's cuddly fabric sculptures from 2024.

With works by:

Otl Aicher, Max Bill, Helen von Boch, Luigi Colani, Günter Fruhtrunk, Diana Galli, Donald Judd, Roman Lang, Robert Morris, Ad Minoliti, Aurélie Nemours, Georg Karl Pfahler, Dieter Rams, Rafa Silvares, Marco Stanke, Anton Stankowski, Frank Stella, Victor Vasarely, Timm Ulrichs, Kay Walkowiak and others.

In the exhibition, works from the Erlangen Municipal Collection meet numerous loans from the Museum of Concrete Art and the Ingolstadt Foundation for Concrete Art and Design.
