Wreath-laying ceremony on the anniversary of Mayr-Nusser's death

On February 24, 1945, Josef Mayr-Nusser from Bolzano died in Erlangen on his way to Dachau concentration camp because he had previously refused to take the Führer's oath. In the course of the process of his beatification, the cities of Erlangen and Bolzano decided to become twinned and have always commemorated him in both cities.

Father Schüpferling, head priest of St. Bonifaz, added his words and offered a short prayer, followed by a presentation by students from the Josef Mayr-Nusser Academy for Social Pedagogy: as part of the "School without Racism" exercise, they looked at the fate of their school's namesake and reflected on his significance for today. His decision against injustice and division can still be seen as a role model today.

Looking back on the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of his death

In May, a panel discussion at the vhs dealt with the different perspectives on his memory. In summer, the group on the citizens' trip from Erlangen made a stop at the "Haus der Familie" on the Ritten, Mayr-Nusser's first resting place. The traveling exhibition about Josef Mayr-Nusser was shown both in the city library and in St. Boniface Church. A group of pilgrims from Bolzano traveled to Erlangen for the church memorial day on 3 October. At the same time, the Siemenschor choir from Erlangen performed at the memorial service in Bolzano Cathedral in his honor.
