Joint press release by the Foreigners' and Integration Advisory Council
Stand: 17.07.2025
Erlangen: International, diverse - and safe
Erlangen is not only one of the most international cities in Bavaria, but also the safest city in Germany according to the latest data. This development is no coincidence - it is an expression of a functioning coexistence of all people in this city, regardless of origin, language or religion.
More than 30% of Erlangen's population has a migration background, many of whom are actively involved in the city's social, economic and cultural life. Erlangen's diversity has long since become a strength, as the current population statistics and the city's international profile show.
At the same time, the recently published Security Report 2024 by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) shows that Erlangen has the lowest crime rate of all major cities in Germany in the police crime statistics (PKS).
These figures speak for themselves:
Diversity and safety are not mutually exclusive - on the contrary.
The Foreigners and Integration Advisory Board (AIB) and the Erlangen police jointly emphasize:
"People with a history of migration are an integral part of our urban society. With their commitment, they contribute to the stability and quality of life in Erlangen."
The cooperation between the city society, municipal institutions, security authorities and migrant communities shows:
Erlangen is a successful example of peaceful, safe and respectful coexistence in diversity.
