Groundbreaking Ceremony in a Central Downtown Location
Stand: 23.07.2026
In the heart of downtown Erlangen, development of the Siemens Mitte neighborhood continues to move forward: The laying of the cornerstone for a new construction project on Mozartstraße marks another important milestone.
On the approximately 6,100-square-meter lot, S&P Commercial Development is developing a mixed-use urban neighborhood for PSD Bank Nürnberg eG under the Service Development model.
Approximately 100 residential units are planned, and the development will be complemented by a hotel with about 120 to 130 rooms, as well as a restaurant and bakery area covering approximately 600 square meters.
The project is part of the comprehensive redevelopment of the former Siemens-Mitte site. In the coming years, a sustainable neighborhood with a clear focus on residential housing will be created here. Plans include, among other things, student housing, residential and care facilities for older adults, and privately financed housing—in some cases incorporating historically protected buildings. Additionally, commercial spaces for medical practices, restaurants, cultural venues, and local amenities are planned.
Its location directly on the newly emerging “Axis of Science” offers particular potential. It creates close connections between the university, research, and urban life. In this context, the Himbeerpalast is also being extensively modernized as the future home for the humanities and social sciences. A central element is the new humanities library, which will bring together around 30 sub-libraries.
