Karl-Heinz-Hiersemann Hall: Sports Activities Can Continue

Before reopening, for safety reasons, it must be ensured that

• the fire caused pollutants to enter the ventilation system of the changing rooms and showers and
• that they may have spread from there to other parts of this ventilation system.

The necessary measurements and analyses can only be carried out by a specialized company. The contract has already been awarded. The ventilation systems in the areas of the hall that remain usable are not affected by these investigations.

Since the measurements and subsequent evaluation will take time, it is unlikely, as things stand now, that the locker rooms and showers will be reopened before the summer break. We regret the resulting restrictions for all users. However, safety is our top priority.

Repairs to the actual fire damage are expected to take several months once the cause of the fire has been determined. The city will provide updates on the progress of the work.
