Aid fund for associations, organizations and initiatives
Stand: 12.03.2025
The City of Erlangen and the Erlangen Community Foundation are jointly setting up a relief fund for associations and initiatives. The aim is to mitigate the consequences of the necessary cuts to voluntary services and to support the wide range of voluntary work in Erlangen.
Why does this relief fund exist?
Erlangen is facing major financial challenges. The city has to consolidate its budget, which entails cuts in many areas - including the city's so-called voluntary services. These include sport, culture, art and services for children, families and the elderly. Associations and initiatives that enrich social life through their voluntary work are also particularly affected. They will receive fewer grants for rent and running costs.
Who can donate money to the relief fund?
Companies, foundations, service clubs and private individuals are called upon to make donations to help secure important services. The Erlangen Community Foundation will make an initial contribution of 25,000 euros from its own funds to the relief fund. Donations can be made to the special account of the Bürgerstiftung Erlangen (IBAN: DE40 7635 0000 0060 1560 59, Sparkasse Erlangen Höchstadt Herzogenaurach). Purpose: Aid fund for associations. Donation receipts can be issued.
Who can apply for donations from the relief fund?
Institutions, associations and initiatives that receive fewer grants from the city due to the city's budget situation. The donations are intended to secure the services offered by institutions, associations and initiatives even in these difficult times. The Erlangen Community Foundation manages the donations and distributes the grants. In doing so, it ensures that the funds are targeted to where they are needed. Applications can be submitted via a digital process. An independent allocation committee decides on the allocation of funds. The funds will be awarded from May.

What does the city of Erlangen say?
Lord Mayor Florian Janik emphasizes the importance of the initiative: "The city is doing everything it can to preserve established structures. But the financial scope is limited. With the aid fund, we want to help ensure that associations and initiatives can continue to carry out their valuable work. We hope for broad support from urban society."
What does the community foundation say?
Klaus Fella, Chairman of the Erlangen Community Foundation, calls for participation: "Voluntary work is a cornerstone of our city. Many associations and initiatives are facing major challenges. Together, we can help to ensure that this important work continues." Elisabeth Preuß, board member of the community foundation, adds: "The motto of the community foundation is citizens for citizens - that is particularly fitting in this difficult situation. Companies and private individuals who can give something donate to the community foundation and we make sure that it gets to the right place."
