Climate adaptation concept (KLAK, 2020)
Stand: 28.05.2024
An integrated climate protection concept was drawn up in 2016, in which measures to reduce the city's CO2 emissions are listed. With the climate adaptation concept (KlAK), the "second pillar" of a comprehensive climate policy is now being developed in order to secure the quality of life in Erlangen in the long term.
Climate change in Erlangen - today
Changing climatic conditions can already be observed in Erlangen. The long-term average temperature rose by around 1.5°C between 1881 and 2018, with the warming increasing particularly strongly in the last 20 years. This is accompanied by an increased number of hot and particularly hot days. On the other hand, frost and ice days decreased over the same period. At the same time, the annual amount of precipitation increased by almost 10% up to 2018. With increasing warming, the potential for heavy precipitation (extreme weather events) also increases.
Climate change in Erlangen - in the future
If greenhouse gas emissions are not fundamentally reduced, the average annual temperature in Erlangen will rise by 3.6°C by the end of the century. The average number of summer days (Tmax ≥ 25°C), hot days (Tmax ≥ 30°C) and tropical nights (Tmin ≥ 20°C) will also increase. The number of consecutive hot days (hot spells) will also increase. At the same time, winters will become milder. The annual precipitation totals in Erlangen will increase slightly by the end of the century, with precipitation shifting from the summer months to the winter months. This can lead to a worsening of water shortages in summer.
