Climate protection at our school

In June 2023, the Office for Equal Opportunities and Diversity / International Relations invited entries for the international competition "Climate protection at our school - Together for sustainable action". All Erlangen schools that have a student exchange, school partnership or similar in a partner city in Erlangen or another municipality abroad were eligible to apply. The application was submitted as a tandem between an Erlangen school and its partner school.

A jury has now selected the winning tandem from the applications: The winner was the Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium Erlangen with its partner school IES Botikazar in Bilbao for tackling the issue of food waste in the form of a jointly developed and tested cookbook. Both winning schools will receive a grant of €1,000 each for a class trip/class excursion to a sustainability learning location of their choice.

Jury statement:

The Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium worked together with its partner school IES Botikazar in Bilbao on all the tasks of the competition. They exchanged ideas and agreed on a new joint topic that is highly relevant to the pupils. The topic of sustainability was dealt with comprehensively: Dealing with the topic, relating it to the reality of their own lives, presenting offers, increasing self-efficacy through concrete action. The meetings in both Bilbao and Erlangen were used to develop and fully implement the topic. The result is a jointly developed and tested cookbook. It gives the pupils the opportunity to take action against food waste themselves and to incorporate the topic into their everyday and family lives and to raise awareness and motivate others. The jury was also impressed by the fact that the cookbook was written in four languages (German, Basque, English and Spanish).
