Immission control; noise action plan 2020

Stand: 28.05.2024

Environmental Noise Directive

Erlangen's citizens have the opportunity to actively shape noise reduction in the urban area. Directive 2002/49/EC on the assessment and management of environmental noise aims to prevent or reduce environmental noise on the basis of noise maps and noise action plans.

Noise mapping

In conurbations with a population of 100,000 or more, the noise situation must be determined every five years and presented in noise maps. In 2017, the State Office for the Environment most recently produced noise maps for the city of Erlangen. These are available online in UmweltAtlas Bayern and serve as the basis for noise action planning.

Noise action planning

The city of Erlangen is updating the noise action plan in 2020 in collaboration with the Ingenieurbüro für Verkehrsanlagen und Systeme (IVAS). This plan sets out measures to reduce the impact of environmental noise on citizens. Environmental noise within the meaning of the law is the noise caused by road traffic, rail traffic, air traffic, large ports and certain commercial operations. Different authorities are responsible for the individual types of noise. The city of Erlangen prepares the noise action plan for road traffic (excluding freeways).

Your opportunities to get involved

In July 2020, over 500 Erlangen citizens took part in the early public participation and completed a questionnaire on traffic noise. The results of the public survey were taken into account as far as possible in the draft noise action plan.

As part of the second public participation, you had the opportunity to comment on the draft noise action plan from 14.12.2020 to 29.01.2021.

We would like to thank you for your cooperation and the detailed suggestions for improvement.

Your comments were evaluated and the draft of the noise action plan was revised once again.

The update of the noise action plan was unanimously approved at the city council meeting on 29.04.2021.
The consent of the government of Middle Franconia was granted on 10.09.2021.
