Wichtiger Hinweis
Food waste garbage can for waste with animal components
Stand: 05.12.2024
Kitchen, food and food waste of animal origin that is no longer intended for human consumption must be recycled via a food waste garbage can.
Basic principles
Food waste containing animal body parts or products of animal origin pose a risk for the occurrence of animal diseases and illnesses. This waste from non-private households is subject to the Animal By-products Disposal Act (TierNebG) and EU Regulation 1069/2009 and must be collected separately from other waste and sent for special recycling. Disposal via the municipal organic waste garbage can or residual waste garbage can is not permitted. In general, the use of an organic waste garbage can for purely vegetable waste is only permitted if a food waste garbage can is available.
Who is affected?
- Restaurants, snack bars, food retailers, bakers, butchers and other commercial enterprises
- Hospitals, retirement homes
- Schools, kindergartens, canteens and other communal catering facilities
What must be disposed of separately?
- Food waste of animal origin (e.g. food containing meat, fish, eggs, poultry, dairy products or products thereof) and other food that has come into contact with it
- Spoiled and discarded food of animal origin
Legal basis
- Animal By-products Disposal Act (TierNebG) and the Animal By-products Disposal Ordinance (TierNebV)
- Regulation (EC) No. 1069/2009 laying down health rules concerning animal by-products not intended for human consumption
- Waste management statutes of the city of Erlangen
Short & simple
The disposal of kitchen, catering and food waste with animal components must be carried out via a food waste garbage can. Plant waste can also be recycled in this bin.
Disposal via the municipal organic waste garbage can is not permitted and may be punished by the authorities.
The provision of an organic waste garbage can for plant waste only takes place if it can be proven that a food waste garbage can is used for animal waste.
