The main contents of the master plan were presented in thematic plans, excerpts of which are published here. The most important guidelines of the master plan are
- A coherent, uniform campus is to be created
- A green boulevard as a connecting element: attractive, interconnected open spaces and squares with high amenity qualities, reserved for pedestrians and cyclists
- New buildings should face the green boulevard and also the access roads
- Integration of the Siemens Campus site into the design and structure of the FAU campus
- Positioning of so-called "landmarks" for better orientation and visibility
- Uses and building cubatures compatible with the urban environment, integration with the surrounding area, e.g. opening up to the neighboring residential population
- Largely car-free campus: concentration of motorized traffic on main roads and parking spaces in multi-storey parking lots on the outskirts of the campus
- Centralized arrangement of highly frequented uses (e.g. lecture halls) that are easily accessible for all types of mobility
- Arrangement of uses with high technical requirements and heavy goods traffic in the peripheral areas
- Economical and careful use of land and soil
- Anchoring of climate protection and climate adaptation measures in further implementation
The City of Erlangen, represented by the Department for Planning and Construction / Office for Urban Planning and Mobility, was involved in the development of the master plan.
The master plan is a fundamental urban development concept of the Free State of Bavaria for the development of FAU. As other urban development planning, it forms the basis for the necessary urban land-use planning (amendments to the land-use plan and development plans) of the city of Erlangen.
Further intensive coordination between the responsible departments of the Free State of Bavaria, the FAU and the City of Erlangen will take place as part of such subsequent planning. The public, public agencies and other authorities will also be given the opportunity to provide information and make comments.
