Compassionate community - application by the Seniors' Advisory Council:

Stand: 13.08.2025

Treatment in the Social and Health Committee (SGA)

At its meeting on 22 January 2024, the Senior Citizens' Advisory Council submitted a request for the city of Erlangen to commission a concept on how the idea of the Compassionate Community can be implemented using two Erlangen neighbourhoods as examples.

The application was discussed in the Social and Health Committee (SGA) and rejected with the following justification:

Excerpt from the minutes of the SGA meeting on April 24, 2024 (agenda item 9):

"Office 50 is generally open to the concerns of the "compassionate community" concept. However, instead of developing a separate concept, integration into existing service structures and action plans with the involvement of specialist networks (see section 1) is considered a suitable approach.

Within the scope of Office 50's activities, there is the possibility of increasing education and awareness-raising in line with the concept of the "compassionate community" as part of existing service formats (e.g. in neighbourhood projects). Information events and lecture series could be used for this purpose, for example. Neighborhood or neighborhood meetings in the neighborhood projects are generally open to the (older) residents in the neighborhood. The extent to which target group-specific meeting points can be set up here for people with illnesses or their relatives and family members must be agreed with the cooperation partners in the neighborhood projects. This also requires specific skills in particular, for which additional expertise must also be brought in. Beyond selective offers and events, Office 50 proposes the medium and long-term structural integration of action approaches of the "caring community" concept into the further development of neighborhood work (see section 3)."
