AllerHand Sand - nature tours for school classes

Stand: 09.05.2025

Experience the Franconian Desert! School classes explore sand conservation areas

The sandy grassland conservation areas near Erlangen are managed by the Middle Franconia Landscape Conservation Association. Sand habitats are among the most endangered biotope types in Bavaria. Typical habitats are the open sands, dwarf shrub heaths, sandy grasslands, pine (groves), small bodies of water and moor areas.

Since 2002, the project "AllerHand Sand - exploring nature on the parade ground" has offered all Erlangen schools the opportunity to get to know the special features of the nature reserve on environmental education tours. As naturalists, classes of all school types and grades can interactively experience the sand habitat on the Franconian sand axis.

At three stations, pupils can discover exciting facts about soil science, plants and animals in the Franconian Desert. Biodiversity and climate are accompanying aspects of the excursions.

For schools from the west and north of Erlangen, our environmental educators also offer sand tours through the protected landscape features of the Holzweg and the sandy grasslands of the Riviera.

The educational project for sustainable development is a cooperation between the Office for Environmental Protection and Energy Issues of the City of Erlangen and the area management of sand conservation areas of the Middle Franconia Landscape Conservation Association.

We will be happy to send you the flyer as a PDF on request.
