Lord Mayor and AIB against right-wing extremism

Stand: 28.05.2024

The Lord Mayor Dr. Janik and the Foreigners' and Integration Advisory Council of the City of Erlangen are jointly promoting social diversity and setting an example against right-wing extremism in a press release.

Under the motto "Erlangen stands up - open by tradition", the head of the city, together with the Foreigners and Integration Advisory Council, is calling on people to take a stand: "Never again is now! The defense of democracy and peaceful coexistence is important to us." Dr. Janik promotes respectful and peaceful coexistence for all, free from discrimination or ascriptions.

The mayor sees social diversity as a natural enrichment. Rami Boukhachem, Chairman of the Foreigners and Integration Advisory Board, also emphasizes: "Everyone has long been aware that we need immigration in Germany." However, he sees the danger that skilled workers from abroad will feel put off by the right-wing extremist tendencies in society and politics.

AGABY, the umbrella organization of municipal integration councils in Bavaria, points out in its statement: "The number of right-wing extremist crimes has risen sharply. People with a migrant background no longer feel safe."

The Chairman of the Advisory Council for Foreigners and Integration emphasizes: "The broad social alliance against right-wing extremism is an encouraging sign for democracy. We are delighted that hundreds of thousands of people are taking to the streets against right-wing extremism and taking a stand. In doing so, people are showing a clear stance: we are against ethnic racism and all forms of discrimination. We are a diverse society and we stand together."

Dr. Janik and the AIB are jointly calling on people to take a stand in their circle of family and friends, at school or at work and to stand up against discrimination.

On February 3, a large demonstration will take place at 4 p.m. at Kornmarkt in Nuremberg. This is being organized by the Alliance against Right-Wing Extremism in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region.
