For some years now, the expansion of Erlanger Stadtwerke has been very much geared towards the need to renovate the networks of other divisions such as electricity and water. In the course of these measures, all adjacent and peripheral areas are contacted and offered fiber optic access. Unfortunately, we almost always meet with only moderate interest (<< 30%). As M-net's tariffs and therefore the return on capital are deliberately kept very low, ESTW cannot completely dispense with a contribution towards expenses when establishing the connection. Due to the continued very high subsidy of the connection by ESTW, the synergies with the other divisions must be utilized in order to achieve cost recovery in the long term. Although this approach leads to a cost-minimized expansion, it also results in areas that are not connected. Depending on the age of the lines, the expansion may suddenly end at one point.
