The objectives of urban renewal are derived from the deficiencies and deficits analyzed in the urban renewal area as part of detailed preparatory studies. In turn, the necessary urban development and other measures are derived from these. They are implemented in concrete terms via an integrated action plan.
A framework plan was drawn up for these areas as part of the preparatory studies, which outlines the most important objectives of Erlangen's inner city development.
They are set out and prepared for implementation in the integrated action plan.
The overriding objective is to increase the attractiveness of Erlangen's city center so that it can continue to fulfill its function as an essential element of Erlangen's central importance (regional center). Alongside this are the goals of strengthening the retail trade, preserving and further developing the historically valuable urban fabric and its cultural facilities, as well as stabilizing the residential function, especially in the Wilhelminian style district around Lorlebergplatz.
The elimination of the identified deficiencies and deficits as well as the desired upgrading of the city center requires the active participation and involvement of numerous citizens, citizens' associations and initiatives, owners, institutions and public authorities. In order to structure and effectively implement the appropriate measures and projects for the renewal and further development of Erlangen's city centre, the necessary fields of action and possible stakeholders must first be brought into focus.
