Dieter Rosner – Director of Youth, Family, and Social Affairs

Poverty, wealth, opportunities, and prospects for development remain unevenly distributed in our society. I am concerned with the question of how we can ensure equal opportunities for participation for everyone. Linked to this is the question of what holds an urban society together. So it’s less about managing “hardship and misery” and more about the mission to shape local youth, family, and social policies. However, the issue of what is known as “equity of opportunity” is also important to me: empowering people to lead a good life independently and on their own terms, to participate in social life, and to help shape it.

The most important areas of action and challenges I’m currently focusing on all begin with “A”: growing up, aging, poverty, unemployment, and asylum (immigration). The issues of “affordable housing” and (social) inclusion are also very close to my heart. And there’s another question that’s been on my mind: How can we successfully integrate climate and social policy?

I see this slogan as a guiding principle for Erlangen’s social policy. The goal is to develop strategies to ensure access to opportunities for participation. These include, for example, low-threshold and outreach-based forms of information, counseling, and social-educational support for everyone, as well as a preventive approach to avoid emergencies.

The number of affordable housing units is steadily increasing. We must not let up on this front. The construction of additional affordable housing must be a priority; in particular, there is high demand for two-bedroom apartments and large multi-bedroom apartments. In the future, however, we must also find creative solutions to the housing shortage, such as repurposing vacant office buildings or supporting communal living arrangements. In the long term, the goal is to secure the supply of subsidized housing through appropriate measures.

I'm not limited to any one genre. I enjoy listening to "Independent" on Zündfunk on Bayern 2. I've been listening to that show for over 40 years. The annual playlists feature a lot of music that I enjoy listening to.
