The Eco-City of Erlangen is participating in the REGIOplus-CHALLENGE under the motto“7 Days – 50 Kilometers – 3 Wild Cards,” alongside other Bavarian eco-model regions.
It is calling on everyone interested to eat food grown right around the corner during the week of October 5–11, 2026 .
The rules are as follows: For 7 days, eat and drink only what was produced within a maximum of 50 kilometers of your home, using no more than 3 “wild cards” (e.g., for coffee, tea, or cocoa). A new feature this year is that participants can also choose to play with relaxed rules—for example, by focusing on three ingredients, one meal a day, or only fresh produce.
Starting in early September, participants will receive guidance to help them prepare for the challenge. To do this, sign up for the challenge’s newsletter to receive helpful tips, information on local shopping options, regional promotions, and creative recipe ideas delivered directly to your inbox.
The Office for Environmental Protection and Energy Issues supports the initiative to raise awareness that the products we put in our shopping carts affect agriculture and the landscape of our region, biodiversity, and—last but not least—the climate.
