RegioPlus Challenge

Every fall, selected Bavarian eco-model regions and organic cities invite you to take part in the RegioPlus Challenge! Participating means eating and drinking only foods and beverages produced within a 50-kilometer radius of your home for seven days. You may use up to three “wild cards” during this time.

This year’s dates: October 5–11.

The organic city of Erlangen is participating in the REGIOplus CHALLENGE under the motto “7 Days – 50 Kilometers – 3 Wild Cards” alongside other Bavarian eco-model regions.

It calls on everyone interested to eat what’s grown right around the corner during the week of October 5–11, 2026.
The rules are as follows: for seven days, eat and drink only what was produced within a maximum of 50 kilometers of your home, and use no more than three “wild cards” (e.g., for coffee, tea, or cocoa). There’s some news on this front. You can participate with relaxed rules. For example, you can focus on three ingredients, one meal a day, or only fresh products.

Starting in early September, support will be available to help you prepare for the challenge. To access this, sign up for the challenge’s newsletter. The Office for Environmental Protection and Energy Issues supports the initiative. It aims to raise awareness that the products we put in our shopping carts affect the agriculture and landscape of our region, biodiversity, and, not least, the climate.
