Rennes at the 21st Erlangen International Comic Salon 2024

France is considered a comic nation. In hardly any other country is this art form so appreciated and recognized by a broad public. It was therefore only natural that artists from our French twin town should also take part in the festival to mark the 60th anniversary of the town twinning between Erlangen and Rennes.

The urban sketcher Etiou Malonga has been connected to Erlangen through various collaborations since 2017: Together with Erlangen comic artist Michael Jordan, he had worked on various urban sketching projects in Erlangen and Rennes. At the International Comic Salon, he now took part in the urban sketching focus and also went on a sketch crawl through Erlangen together with visitors to the Salon.

The artist collective La Vilaine visited Erlangen for the first time and presented their comic anthology series "La Vilaine" at the dFi stand. They also invited visitors to a "Battle Dessinée", an extremely amusing drawing battle with German and French artists.

In addition to the artists, a group of full-time and volunteer representatives from the Long Prés sociocultural center also travelled to Erlangen at the same time. In addition to a visit to the Comic Salon, the program also included a visit to the Kulturpunkt Bruck and a discussion with the Office for Citizen Participation and Volunteering. This Rennais institution also held a comic workshop for senior citizens with Michael Jordan in October 2024, continuing the collaboration between Erlangen and Rennes in the field of comics.
