The City Council’s Construction and Public Works Committee has approved the preliminary design for the renovation of the south facade of the Eichendorff School (Learning Centers A+B). The plan calls for replacing the windows and installing thermal insulation on the south side of the building.
Current Situation
The existing windows, installed in 1965, are severely damaged and no longer meet current safety requirements. Some are no longer usable—a few have already had to be permanently closed.
The sunshades are also largely inoperable. Among other things, this makes it difficult to use projectors in class. In addition, the classrooms heat up significantly during the summer months, which makes teaching considerably more challenging.
Planned Measures
The plan is to install
- modern, energy-efficient plastic windows with triple glazing
- new, electrically controlled sunshade systems.

In addition, the facade will be fitted with a composite thermal insulation system. This is intended to
- reduce energy consumption and
- significantly improve heat protection in the summer.
Costs and Timeline
The total cost of the project amounts to approximately 549,000 euros. Of this amount,
- approximately 418,000 euros to the window renovation and
- about 131,000 euros to the facade renovation.
Construction work on the windows is scheduled to begin in August. The facade renovation is planned for the period from September through November.

- sustainably improve safety and learning conditions for students and teachers.
