City Tour: Colonialism Repeats Itself - Mobile Archive
Stand: 24.09.2026
Due to the large number of registrations, the City Archives is offering another city walking tour on the topic of “Traces of Colonialism in Erlangen.”
The City Archives and historian Theresa Winkovich are offering another city walking tour on the theme of “Traces of Colonialism in Erlangen.” Under the motto “Archive on the Move,” the tour takes participants to various sites that illustrate the extent to which Erlangen, too, was involved in the colonial economy and a Eurocentric and racist worldview. Colonialism permeated the daily lives of people in every corner of the German Empire.
Going beyond the historical perspective, the tour focuses primarily on the lingering effects of colonial history and aims to stimulate discussion about postcolonial action and thought. The City Archives’ new series, “Archive on the Move,” brings together historical traces in the urban landscape with exemplary archival sources. It therefore does not offer traditional city tours but is rather conceived as an on-site discussion format about historical events and their lasting impact.
