Municipal daycare centers support Erlangen Declaration for Diversity

Stand: 11.12.2025

The city's daycare centers live the contents of the Erlangen Declaration for Diversity, Respect and Tolerance. At a joint event, the facility managers received the declaration to make it visible in all facilities in future.

On 6 October, Lord Mayor Dr Janik signed the "Erlangen Declaration for Diversity, Respect and Tolerance" on behalf of the city of Erlangen together with numerous other organizations. This had previously been approved by a large majority of the city council on September 25. The Erlangen Declaration was drawn up in a comprehensive process by committed members of Erlangen's urban society from the most diverse areas of civil society, business and academia. The network of signatories currently comprises over 50 organizations and will continue to grow. By signing the Erlangen Declaration, all signatories affirm their commitment to a vibrant, democratic and diverse coexistence and want to strengthen cooperation in the newly formed network.

The city's daycare centers and childminders put the contents of the Erlangen Declaration into practice in their day-to-day work with children and families. They are special places of togetherness in the support of children and families. They contribute to equal opportunities and educational equality, especially in challenging neighborhoods. The municipal facilities make an important contribution to social justice and ensure equal access to early childhood education on the basis of the municipal statutes for daycare facilities. They contribute to inclusion in urban society.

All facility managers received the declarations at a joint event organized by the department at the City Youth Welfare Office and will display them prominently in the facilities in future. Supporting the declaration is part of the self-image of the city's daycare centers with diversity, respect and tolerance.
