Municipal winter service ready for first snowfall

Over the past few weeks, the necessary preparations for the first winter service operations have begun at the municipal green, waste management and street cleaning company. For almost two weeks now, 170 employees have officially been on standby. In addition to municipal operations, they also come from

• the civil engineering department
• the drainage company
• the registry office and cemetery administration.

Large operational area

A total of

• 273 kilometers of main roads
• 209 kilometers of footpaths and cycle paths
• Over 423 bus stops
• 246 crosswalks and intersections
• 143 traffic lights and
• 26 squares (including parking lots)

are among the areas covered. This is divided into priorities.

The personnel have access to 14 large snow clearing vehicles (primarily for main roads and cycle paths) as well as 60 vans, small tractors and multifunctional vehicles. There are 2,700 tons of road salt available.

In this context, the mayor and works manager of the municipal company for urban greenery, waste management and street cleaning, Jörg Volleth, appeals to citizens to comply with their duty to clear and grit the sidewalks adjacent to their property. Blunting grit (not salt) must be used for this purpose. There are numerous unsealed grit containers scattered around the city. The city makes them available to citizens at selected locations.
