Open Monument Day

Stand: 18.08.2026

On Sunday, September 13, Open Monument Day once again invites visitors to make exciting discoveries. Under the theme “NetzWERKE: Monuments & Infrastructure,” monuments will be viewed in new contexts. In addition to the traditional offerings, there will be two new events this year.

This time, the nationwide opening ceremony will take place in Bamberg. In Erlangen, the planning team has once again put together a diverse program. The organization is a collaborative effort involving dedicated volunteers—including members of the Erlangen Local History Association and the local board of the Foundation for the Preservation of Historic Monuments—as well as full-time staff members of the City of Erlangen. Active support is also provided by the Erlangen Tourism and Marketing Association (Erlanger Tourismus- und Marketing-Verein e.V.) and its city tour guides.

New this year

In addition to traditional city tours and open monuments—which you can experience up close through lectures and guided walks—there are two new features this year:

  • For the first time, a discovery tour for children will be offered through the Protestant Church of St. Peter and Paul in Bruck to introduce them to the secrets of the church interior in a playful way.
  • Another highlight is the “Ausklang” event to round out the day, organized by the Local History and Heritage Association and the Erlangen Local Board of the German Foundation for Monument Protection. Following a welcome from the hosts and remarks by the mayor, all guests are cordially invited to enjoy some social networking accompanied by live music.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who made this day possible:
