Environmental impact assessment for drinking water well SF 14

Examination of the obligation to carry out an environmental impact assessment for the extraction of groundwater from the new well SF 14 (parcel no. 2975/0, Erlangen district) in the southern section of the western water protection area for the public water supply of the city of Erlangen
Announcement of the result in accordance with § 5 para. 2 sentence 1 UVPG
Erlanger Stadtwerke AG has applied to the City of Erlangen for a water law permit (§ 8 para. 1 WHG) for the extraction of a maximum of 261,750 m³ of groundwater per year from well SF 14, parcel no. 2975/0, Erlangen district. An increase in the maximum amount of groundwater permitted by decision of the City of Erlangen dated October 14, 1999, ref. no. I/R/313/Ros. (with amendment notice dated 22.03.2018, ref.: I/31/BB008 and amendment notice dated 19.06.2020, ref.: VII/31/KK021) for groundwater abstraction from the south intake of Erlanger Stadtwerke AG's West water extraction plant, consisting of wells SF 02, 04, 06-13, has not been applied for.
The approved total extraction volume of 1,500,000 m³ from the south intake is to be distributed among the existing wells, including well SF 14. The extraction of groundwater to the extent applied for is subject to the general preliminary assessment obligation pursuant to Section 7 (1) sentence 1 UVPG in conjunction with No. 13.3.2 of the UVPG. No. 13.3.2 of Annex 1 to the UVPG. The preliminary assessment determines whether a formal environmental impact assessment must be carried out for the project. The City of Erlangen has examined whether a formal environmental impact assessment must be carried out in the water law approval procedure. The authorities whose environmental responsibilities are affected by the project were involved in the procedure.
In accordance with Section 5 (2) sentence 1 UVPG, the result of the preliminary assessment is published. The determination is not independently contestable.
Result:
The preliminary assessment, including the comments submitted by the authorities involved, revealed that, in the opinion of the water rights authority, a formal environmental impact assessment is not required for the project based on a rough assessment taking into account the criteria listed in Annex 3 to the UVPG. not as the project is not expected to have any significant adverse environmental impacts that would have to be taken into account in the approval decision in accordance with Section 25 (2) UVPG.
