Support for Families in San Carlos

Stand: 16.07.2026

The proceeds from the San Carlos Fiesta made it possible to carry out two special projects in San Carlos.

At our “Fiesta for San Carlos” charity event last November, we were delighted to raise €3,520.12. With these funds, the Erlangen-San Carlos Sister City Association, together with the San Carlos-based NGO Asodelco, was able to organize two initiatives to support families and strengthen the community in San Carlos.

Specifically, 60 people with disabilities and their families received a package containing various food items and hygiene products. As with numerous past activities, Nicaraguan youth involved in the city partnership helped plan and carry out this project.

In the small, remote hamlet of Papaturro—which can only be reached from San Carlos after a boat ride lasting several hours—a family celebration was held for the residents. Fifty children also received gifts, including backpacks, writing supplies, and art supplies for school- and preschool-aged children. A group of women from Papaturro, with whom the Erlangen-San Carlos Sister City Association has maintained close contact for years, played a particularly active role in organizing this event. For the people in this remote community, the celebration is of great importance, as it is one of the few opportunities that allows them to come together and interact, regardless of religion or other characteristics and regardless of financial means.

The Fiesta for San Carlos is a collaboration between the Office for Equal Opportunity and Diversity / International Relations of the City of Erlangen and the Erlangen - San Carlos e.V., the Albert Schweitzer High School, the Franconian International School, the E-Werk Cultural Center, and Weltladen Erlangen e.V.
