Nature conservation; FFH and Natura2000 bird sanctuaries

Natura 2000 is the name for a European network of areas worthy of protection that the European Union has established throughout the territory of the member states. The Federal Republic of Germany has also committed itself to participating in Natura 2000 and thus to safeguarding Europe's natural heritage.

The city of Erlangen is part of the following European bird sanctuaries: the Brucker Lache, the Regnitz meadows north of the Dechsendorfer Damm and the smaller ponds and wetlands near the Dechsendorfer Weiher.
