Through September 24, 2026, the City Archives is hosting the traveling exhibition “What Could You Have Done? Resistance Against National Socialism, 1939–1945.” Organized by the German Resistance Memorial Center in cooperation with the July 20, 1944 Foundation, the exhibition illustrates the diverse forms of resistance against National Socialism. Most Germans enthusiastically supported the National Socialist regime or went along with it because they hoped to gain advantages from it. Some remained passive. Only a few people stood up against the crimes of the new rulers. They made use of the opportunities for political action that still existed even under the conditions of the dictatorship. They are the focus of the exhibition and provide food for thought regarding attitudes and the scope for action.

The exhibition can be visited during the reading room’s regular opening hours and as part of events; groups by appointment.
