Through September 24, 2026, the City Archives will host the exhibition “What Could They Do? Resistance Against National Socialism, 1939–1945,” presented by the German Resistance Memorial Center in cooperation with the July 20, 1944 Foundation. The informative exhibition panels illustrate the diverse forms that resistance to National Socialism took. Most Germans enthusiastically supported the new Nazi regime or went along with it because they hoped to gain advantages from it. Some remained passive. Only a few people stood up against the crimes of the new rulers. They made use of the opportunities for political action that still existed even under the conditions of the dictatorship. They are the focus of the exhibition and provide food for thought regarding attitudes and scope for action.
The exhibition is open during the reading room’s regular hours and as part of special events; groups by appointment.
