E-mails could not be delivered
Due to a technical problem, no e-mails could be delivered to the City of Erlangen in the night from October 29 to 30. Some senders did not receive an automatic notification about the failed delivery. If you have sent us an e-mail during this time and are unsure whether it has arrived, please contact the relevant department directly.
Fraudulent e-mails
The City of Erlangen warns against receiving dubious e-mails. They are currently being sent to business partners of the city. In the cases already known, the following e-mail address was used as the sender: rechnungswesen@]finansavdeling.com. In the text, the recipient was asked to pass on invoice data.
These e-mails do not originate from the City of Erlangen or its offices and affiliated companies and have no connection whatsoever with the City of Erlangen! The City of Erlangen will report all reported cases to the police.
You can always recognize e-mails from the City of Erlangen by the fact that the e-mail address (domain) used always ends with "@stadt.erlangen.de".
The City of Erlangen asks
- all citizens
- companies cooperating with it
- other external persons and companies
not to disclose any personal or billing data in response to such dubious e-mails.
Anyone who has received such a fraudulent e-mail is asked to report it as an attachment in an e-mail with the subject "Information security - attempted invoice fraud". Contact e-mail: stadt@stadt.erlangen.de.
How can you protect yourself against fraudulent e-mails?
The German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) recommends the so-called "3-second method" for quickly checking e-mails:
1. check the sender
- Is the e-mail address credible and correctly spelled?
- Does it come from the expected organization or person?
2. scrutinize the content
- Does the message sound logical and expected?
- Is pressure being built up or is urgent action required?
3. distrust attachments/links
- Do not click on links or open attachments without checking them. You should be particularly careful with ZIP files, PDFs or Word documents with macros. They should not be opened too quickly.
- Check the link behind the display name!
- If in doubt, always ask the sender to confirm the sending of an e-mail via an independent contact.
