Farming Workshops for Urban Communities & Educational Modules for Schools

Interested in vegetable-growing experiences? With fun, ease, and the right mix of theory and practice, seasoned gardeners and experienced environmental educators share valuable insights into organic vegetable gardening: from proper sowing to environmentally friendly care during the growing season, all the way to bountiful harvests.

Sustainability and climate protection are brought to life through hands-on experience, connections to agriculture are highlighted, and tips for your own daily life are shared.

Everything is set up for the workshops, and everyone is welcome to participate—whether you have prior experience or not: There’s plenty of room for questions and time to talk shop!

Dates and Workshop Content

Between April and November, the “Zukunftsacker” educational project offers a variety of activities for children, teens, and adults, as well as for families with children, all under the expert guidance of our field coaches: From family days and vacation days for children to expert lectures and cooking events, all the way to the final harvest and the Organic Day in the fall—there’s something for everyone. Customized programs for clubs and groups are also available upon request.

Cooperation and Funding Partners

The “Zukunftsacker” learning center, an educational project for sustainable development, is a collaborative project between the City of Erlangen (project management) and forum1.5 Mittelfranken e.V. (project sponsor).

In 2021, the project was funded by the Deutsche Postcode Lottery; in 2022, it received partial funding from the Sparkasse Erlangen Foundation for Education, Nature, and the Environment. In 2023 and 2024, the City of Erlangen funded the entire project. In 2025, the project will be supported by the Sparkassenstiftung Erlangen and the City of Erlangen’s Sustainability Advisory Board.
