The city of Erlangen will redevelop the urban area in the center of Eltersdorf, which is currently unsatisfactory from an urban planning perspective, and create a plaza that is inviting and pleasant to spend time in.

2019 – The firm Der Beck, in cooperation with the City of Erlangen, announced a planning competition for the construction of a new bakery branch (implementation phase) and the redesign of Egidienplatz (concept phase).The Eltersdorf town center was registered as an individual project under the Bavarian urban development funding program.
The winning design for the implementation phase has been completed. Preliminary planning has been finalized and approved by the Environment, Transportation, and Planning Committee. No planning funds for external contracts are allocated in the 2025 budget; however, planning will continue internally within the city. It is not expected that any funds can be allocated before 2030.
2023 - Completion of preliminary design
Planning services (Phases 1–9): 100,000 euros
Construction of Phase 1: 700,000 euros
Total cost of Phases 1 and 2: 1.2 million euros

Public information session “Redesign of Egidienplatz” on July 18, 2023, in the gym of the Eltersdorf Elementary School. At the same time, all Eltersdorf residents were sent a letter asking them to share their suggestions for the redesign of Egidienplatz by postcard or online.
