The city of Erlangen will reorganize the unsatisfactory urban planning situation in the center of Eltersdorf and create a square with the quality of a place to stay.

A rough analysis of the district has been available since 2009, which formulated initial objectives and solutions. Building on this, the further planning of the town center is now to be advanced in order to further develop Eltersdorf as a liveable and sustainable town.
In summer 2019, the company Der Beck, in cooperation with the city of Erlangen, announced a planning competition for the construction of a new bakery (realization part) and the redesign of Egidienplatz (ideas part), and the Eltersdorf town center was registered as an individual measure in the Bavarian urban development programme.
The winning design for the realization part has been completed. The implementation of the ideas section is currently in the preliminary planning stage.
