Expansion of the Dechsendorf fire station
Stand: 07.11.2024
The fire station in Dechsendorf is being extended. The aim of this is to maintain and improve the performance of the Dechsendorf volunteer fire department for the safety of citizens.
Informationen
On the site of the former, almost 50-year-old building, a new building has been constructed in around two years, offering the 50 or so volunteers the best conditions for their work on behalf of the city. The project cost a total of around 3.38 million euros. The Free State of Bavaria is funding the construction with almost 200,000 euros. A further 83,000 euros came from a KFW program. The building meets modern and expanded space requirements with changing rooms, technical rooms, recreation rooms and a seminar room for around 70 firefighters, including the youth fire department, as well as a third parking space for an emergency vehicle. There is also an outdoor training wall.
During the planning phase, the existing vehicle hall was initially to be retained. However, structural analyses revealed that the existing structural system and building fabric would not be able to support the loads of the planned green roof and photovoltaic system. Additional measures would be necessary. After consideration, the design planning was continued with a new replacement building. Taking into account the additional funding for a new vehicle hall, this is more economical and there are no restrictive supports in the interior of the hall. The demolition work on the old building and the new construction measures lasted from May 2023 to May 2025. During the construction work, the fire department was temporarily housed in the new building of the German Life Saving Association (DLRG) Dechsendorf and remained fully operational.
The new fire station in the north-west of the city fulfills other important functions: With a built-in emergency power generator, it is part of the city's "lighthouse concept" in the event of a disaster or power outage and then serves as a citizen supply center. Due to the space available, it can also be used as an alternative location for the so-called local operations command (command staff) in the event of major emergencies or disasters - if the actual location in the main fire station cannot be used.
Going beyond the statutory energy requirements, the planning aimed to achieve climate neutrality: among other things, renewable raw materials (wooden wall and ceiling constructions), microclimate-promoting green roofs and façades, photovoltaic systems, energy-efficient heating systems, ecological insulation materials and permeable floor coverings in the outdoor area were used during the operational phase of the building, which saves more CO2 than is caused by energy consumption. After a good six years of operation, the CO2 emissions associated with the construction work will also be offset. Over a period of 40 years, around 141.5 tons of CO2 will be saved.
The official inauguration will take place on Saturday, July 26. The firefighters will present the new building to the public at a special day on Sunday, July 27 (10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).
In addition to around 50 firefighters, there are also around 15 young people. The city of Erlangen has stationed a multi-purpose vehicle and an emergency fire-fighting vehicle as well as a hose reel disaster control vehicle in Dechsendorf.
