Climate Breakthrough

With the “Klima-Aufbruch” initiative, the city of Erlangen has embraced its role as an active driver of greenhouse gas neutrality. Through a unique participatory process, we worked together with initiatives, associations, businesses, the scientific community, and citizens to develop the “Klima-Aufbruch” roadmap—a catalog of 41 measures.

Achieving greenhouse gas neutrality within the city requires a wide range of measures. In 2022, the Erlangen Citizens’ Council, together with climate-focused representatives from business, academia, government, and civic initiatives, developed the “Climate Action Roadmap” catalog of measures. As many Erlangen residents as possible are encouraged to support the 41 adopted measures so that they can have the necessary impact. At www.klima-aufbruch.de/sei-dabei, all committed citizens and organizations can join the “Climate Breakthrough” initiative by contributing their own climate protection efforts. The entire catalog of measures forms the basis for the city’s actions. The city administration and its municipal subsidiaries are called upon to continuously refine and implement these measures.

Budget funds are currently used primarily for:
- Installation of solar panels on municipal buildings
- Renovation and replacement of fossil-fuel heating systems in municipal buildings
- Strengthening eco-friendly transportation (public transit, cycling, and walking)
- Municipal heat planning
- Green spaces
- Free and independent energy counseling for all residents at the small town hall, on-site, or in the Klimamobil
- Participate in the "Klima-Aufbruch" roadmap with your own "Contributions to Klima-Aufbruch"
- Regular informational events on “Klima-Aufbruch”
