The urban development concept (STEK) is an interdisciplinary orientation and target framework for the whole of Erlangen for the coming years.
The STEK is intended to identify the substantive and spatial focal points of urban development and formulate medium to long-term visions, goals and projects. Existing competing interests will have to be discussed in the STEK process in order to jointly set priorities and create development areas for the future. This will involve broad public participation.

The city is working with an external planning team on the STEK. The current focus is on reviewing and overlaying existing concepts and documents, supplemented by the city's own inventory and feedback from stakeholders in urban society. The aim of the analysis phase is to define key areas for action and spatial focus areas and to work out Erlangen's strengths and weaknesses. In the concept phase, the future of Erlangen is envisioned together with the urban community: A future perspective as well as a spatial development concept are to be drafted. The overarching orientation framework is to be formulated and objectives, strategies and measures for the fields of action and spatial focus areas are to be defined.
An implementation strategy will be designed to ensure a smooth start to the implementation phase once the concept has been completed. One anchor point will be the revision of the land use plan.
The concept is currently being drawn up. The process is scheduled to take three and a half to four years.
Costs arise primarily from the creation of the concept for the external office and for public relations work
The information and participation of all stakeholders and urban society is an essential and fundamental element in the development of the STEK. The aim is to shape the future of Erlangen together with and for the citizens and the city. The process should be transparent and accessible at all times.
During the course of the process, there are various ways to get actively involved. In addition to the online formats, there will also be on-site formats. These will be announced in good time. Due to the city-wide scope of the project, particular emphasis will be placed on the diversity of the offerings. All parts of the city and districts will be involved, as will the various population groups.
