"Axis of Science" Center for the Humanities

In the coming years, the “Axis of Science” will take shape in downtown Erlangen along Fahrstraße and Sieboldstraße, between the Kollegienhaus and the “Himbeerpalast.” Various new educational institutions, residential units, and commercial spaces will be built there.

- The Himbeerpalat will become the new home of the Faculty of Philosophy at Friedrich-Alexander University. Renovation work began in 2024
- At the same time, FAU’s new lecture hall center is being built on Henkestraße. Demolition of the old Chemikum building is complete. The cornerstone for the new building was laid on May 20, 2026
- The new kubic culture and education campus on Fahrstraße has been completed
- The site of the former Kitzmann Brewery is being converted into residential space. Construction begins in October 2025
- The Student Services daycare center on Langemarkplatz is now open
- The Pacelli House of the Catholic University Community has also been renovated and remodeled
- The new complex at the intersection of Gerstenberger Straße and Sieboldstraße is now occupied
- The planned route of the Stadt-Umland-Bahn through Sieboldstraße ensures optimal connectivity between the “Axis of Science” and local public transit

Citizen participation is an integral part of the process. A series of public lectures took place in the summer of 2018. In 2019, possibilities, opportunities, and wishes for the Science Corridor were developed in collaboration with interested citizens. To keep residents informed, an informational flyer about the “Axis of Science” was distributed via mail to households in the neighborhood and made available to the public. In September 2022 and April 2024, guided walking tours of the city were held for all interested residents.
