Humanities Center "Axis of Science"

In the coming years, the "Axis of Science" will be built in Erlangen's city center on Fahrstrasse and Sieboldstrasse between the Kollegienhaus and the "Raspberry Palace". Various new educational facilities, housing and commercial space will be created.

The "Raspberry Palace" will be the new location of the Faculty of Philosophy at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU). The conversion work began in November 2024.
At the same time, FAU's new lecture hall center is to be built on the site of the former Chemikum on Henkestraße. Demolition work on the old Chemikum began in 2025. Construction of the new building is scheduled to begin in 2027.
The new kubic cultural and educational campus on Fahrstrasse has been completed and started operations at the beginning of 2026.
The site of the former Kitzmann brewery is being converted for residential use. Construction began in October 2025. .
The Studwentenwerk crèche on Langemarkplatz is in operation.
The Pacellihaus of the Catholic university community has been completely renovated. The inauguration is scheduled for mid-2026.
The new Sieboldstraße quarter was completed in 2025 and is occupied.

Public participation is part of the process. A series of public lectures took place in summer 2018. In 2019, possibilities, opportunities and wishes for the axis were developed with interested citizens. To inform citizens, an information flyer on the Axis of Science was distributed by post in the neighborhood and displayed publicly. Joint city walks for all interested citizens took place in September 2022 and April 2024.
